Former Senator Adeyemi Smart, who represented Kogi West in the ninth Senate, has issued a stern warning to Nigeria’s ministers, cautioning them to perform effectively in their roles. Failure to do so, he states, may result in their removal by President Bola Tinubu.
During an appearance on the Channels Television program ‘Politics Today’ on Wednesday, Adeyemi emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring that his appointed ministers deliver results. According to Adeyemi, Tinubu, known for his track record of performance, will not hesitate to remove underperforming ministers.
Adeyemi stated, “What Nigerians should know about President Bola Tinubu today, including those who are ministers, is that from his track record, once you don’t perform in six months, he shows you the way out.” He further praised Tinubu’s determination to reposition Nigeria and emphasized his sense of urgency to address the nation’s challenges.
He urged newly nominated ministers to recognize that they are expected to make a difference, recover lost ground, and appreciate the challenges the country faces. Adeyemi noted that underperforming ministers would not be given extended periods in office and pointed out that Tinubu’s record demonstrates his no-nonsense approach to non-performance.
Adeyemi also addressed the recent incident in the Senate, downplaying the departure of the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Mohammed Ndume, following a ruling that found him out of order.
