Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, led a coalition of five prominent former and serving governors from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), known as the G-5, in a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa last night.

The G-5 coalition comprises Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State. In this crucial encounter, they expressed their unwavering commitment to the notion that the next president of Nigeria should hail from the southern region. Consequently, they declared their intention to withhold their support from the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

This closed-door session, shrouded in secrecy, centered on building a collaborative alliance between President Tinubu and the G-5 former governors. While the specifics of the discussion have not been made public, insider reports suggest that the talks primarily focused on integrating the former governors into the political landscape and exploring potential areas of cooperation.

In addition to the political luminaries involved, the meeting was also attended by Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President. Importantly, this gathering followed an initial round of discussions held at Nyesom Wike’s residence in Abuja.
