In a disturbing incident, 40-year-old mason, Lekan Sunday, has been taken into custody for reportedly sexually assaulting a prophetess within a church in Ogun State.
Findings revealed that the crime occurred last Thursday at the Orioke Aanu Oluwa Gbohunmi church in the Ilogbo Adu area of Kemta in Abeokuta. The assailant, armed with weapons, forcibly entered the church and found the victim asleep.
Brandishing a knife, Sunday allegedly held the prophetess captive, threatening her life if she resisted. Despite her cries for help, the prophetess was unable to garner assistance from those nearby. Subsequently, she pleaded with the assailant, who, unmoved, insisted on engaging in sexual acts with her.
Following the traumatic incident, the victim courageously reported the crime at a nearby police station. A subsequent manhunt was initiated, leading to Sunday’s arrest on Monday.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest and disclosed that the prophetess identified the suspect as a mason and laborer in the vicinity. The preliminary investigation is currently underway.
This shocking event has raised concerns about the safety and security within religious institutions, prompting authorities to address the issue with urgency.
