Napoli striker and Nigerian football sensation, Victor Osimhen, is set to undergo a crucial MRI scan to assess the severity of the injury he sustained during a friendly match against Saudi Arabia, as confirmed by his national team.
The injury forced Osimhen to exit the game early, in the 55th minute, during the encounter at the Portimao stadium in Portugal. As a result, his participation in the upcoming friendly match against Mozambique in Portugal, scheduled for Monday, is in doubt.
Super Eagles’ head coach, Jose Peseiro, expressed concern for Osimhen’s condition and disclosed that the player would soon undergo the MRI scan. Regardless of the scan’s results, Peseiro emphasized that they would not risk Osimhen by including him in the upcoming game.
“We don’t have to play him again whatever the outcome of the scan,” Peseiro stated during an interview shared on social media by the Nigerian team.
Osimhen has been a pivotal figure for Napoli, showcasing his talents with six goals in Serie A this season. He was Serie A’s top scorer during Napoli’s championship-winning campaign last season. Prior to his stint with Napoli, Osimhen plied his trade at clubs in Germany and France.
