The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council of Chiefs has expressed deep concern about the escalating security challenges in the nation’s capital. The Chairman of the FCT Council of Chiefs and the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Baba, spoke out against the worsening security situation during a recent gathering.
Alhaji Adamu Baba, who holds the dual position of Chairman of the FCT Council of Chiefs, made a passionate appeal to the Defence Headquarters to bolster the security in Abuja by deploying additional troops throughout the territory.
The Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau, conveyed the royal father’s call during a courtesy visit by FCT traditional rulers to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, in Abuja.
The purpose of this visit was to convey the traditional rulers’ gratitude to the CDS and the entire armed forces for their unwavering commitment to combating insecurity nationwide, with specific emphasis on the FCT.
During the visit, Alhaji Adamu Baba raised concerns about the surge in criminal activities, most notably the prevalence of “one chance” criminals in Abuja. He implored the military to assist in addressing this growing issue and ensuring the safety of the nation’s capital.
In response to these concerns, General Christopher Musa expressed his appreciation to the traditional rulers for their visit and emphasized the importance of their support in enhancing security. He urged them to educate their subjects about the necessity of providing actionable information to support the security agencies.
The CDS emphasized that security is a collective responsibility, urging the traditional leaders to encourage their communities to adopt the “see something and say something” approach, which would enable the military to take effective and decisive actions.
General Christopher Musa also stressed the significance of community policing, calling on the traditional leaders to actively engage in this effort to combat criminality in the FCT.
