Barrister Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued a directive for the immediate removal of intruders from the proposed transitway corridor located along Mabushi and Katampe Districts in Abuja. The area had been encroached upon by scavengers, mechanics, and furniture makers.

During his visit to the site, Minister Wike expressed his concern about the situation, describing it as an eyesore and an area that appeared to be conducive to criminal activities. He emphasized the need to reduce crime in the area and promptly clear out the unauthorized occupants.

Wike stated, “We will do anything possible we can to see we reduce the level of crime, and we will not allow these people to continue because this is an eyesore. So make sure you clear this immediately.”

The proposed transitway corridor holds significance as it encompasses a dual-mode transportation system, including bus and tram lines, that traverse various districts within Abuja. This transportation network aims to improve mobility and connectivity across the city.

Mukhtar Galadima, the Coordinator of the FCT City Management Joint Task Team, expressed concern over the encroachment of the corridor by scavengers and others. He highlighted the importance of preserving the planned transportation infrastructure in line with the city’s master plan.

Galadima explained, “In the master plan of Abuja, there is provision for different hierarchy of road networks, and this area consists of a proposed dual mode of transportation – the bus and tram line, which traverses the city across almost all the Districts.”
