Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has swiftly responded to allegations of certificate forgery, specifically regarding his secondary school certificate that carried the name “Sadiq Abubakar.”

Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, confirmed that while his O’level certificate bore the name “Sadiq Abubakar,” he legally changed his name through an affidavit after successfully passing his exams.

Dele Momodu, a prominent member of the PDP, took to social media to share Atiku’s detailed response, putting an end to the controversy surrounding the certificate issue. In his X post, Momodu quoted Atiku as follows:

“Yes, I used ‘Sadiq Abubakar’ to sit for my WAEC, and after passing my exams, I went to swear an affidavit to confirm that I am the same person as ‘Atiku Abubakar.’ I attended Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) as ‘Atiku Abubakar’ and passed my exams under that name. I was interviewed as ‘Atiku Abubakar’ by the Federal Civil Service Commission and was employed into the Customs Service as ‘Atiku Abubakar.’ So, where is the forgery there?” – ATIKU ABUBAKAR

Atiku’s response clarifies the situation, emphasizing that the use of “Sadiq Abubakar” for his exams was followed by the necessary legal procedures to establish his true identity as “Atiku Abubakar.”
