American veterans of Igbo descent have voiced their apprehension regarding the safety and well-being of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is currently detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja, Nigeria.

Dr. Emeka Offor, a member of this concerned group, disclosed their worries during a recent statement. The group had previously addressed a letter to President Bola Tinubu, jointly signed by their President, Chief Dr. Sylvester Onyia, and Secretary, Dr. Godson Obiagwu. In the letter, they emphasized the importance of a government that prioritizes the protection of lives, particularly that of an innocent man like Kanu.

Their statement also emphasized the need for restoring the rule of law in Nigeria, highlighting the previous administration’s disregard for court orders, under President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership.

Dr. Offor further implored President Tinubu not to allow any harm to come to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu while under his watch, urging him not to let extremist actions jeopardize an already fragile union. He invoked the memory of the tragic fate of MKO Abiola, noting that Nigeria cannot afford a repetition of such a case.

Drawing from their previous experience advising MKO Abiola about impending challenges, which regrettably went unheeded, the group now seeks to offer counsel to President Tinubu.
