Dr. Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has requested assistance from the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation (FMINO) in order to alleviate Nigerians’ suffering.
On Tuesday, FMINO issued a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, confirming Dr. Edu’s visit to the Minister of Information & National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, as part of her efforts to combat poverty in Nigeria.
The statement read, “The Honourable Minister of Information & National Orientation, Alh. Mohammed Idris, receives the Hon. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, on a visit to solicit the support of the Ministry and its parastatals on her Ministry’s programs.”
Dr. Edu emphasized the importance of Nigerians rallying behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his pursuit of the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda,’ aimed at ushering in a new era of prosperity for all citizens. This call to action came through a statement issued by her spokesperson, Rasheed Olanrewaju Zubair, in commemoration of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary on October 1, 2023.
As part of her commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerians, Dr. Edu initiated the verification of the National Social Register (NSR) in several villages, including Oko Agbon, Adogbo, Migbewhe, Makoko, Sogunro, and Apollo in Lagos State, located in the southwestern region of Nigeria. During the flag-off event, she vowed to establish a social register of high integrity that would benefit all Nigerians.
The National Social Register Verification will be further extended to other areas within Lagos State following the successful launch of the program. This collaborative effort between the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation is expected to make a significant impact in the ongoing battle against poverty and suffering in Nigeria.
