The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has unequivocally affirmed the victory of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the March 18th election. The tribunal’s ruling, led by Justice C.H. Ahuchaogu and comprising three distinguished members, effectively dismisses the petition brought forth by former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The tribunal’s verdict rested on a critical evaluation of the petition’s content and the evidence presented. It was unequivocal in stating that the petition lacked substantiated evidence, ultimately rendering it devoid of merit and replete with speculative claims.
This decision underscores the significance of a robust and credible legal process in upholding the integrity of electoral outcomes. It reaffirms the importance of presenting well-founded and verifiable evidence when challenging election results, ensuring that the sanctity of the electoral process remains intact.
While Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s victory has been confirmed by this ruling, it is important to note that there are still ongoing judgments expected in other electoral disputes. These include the cases involving the Labour Party (LP) against the PDP and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) versus PDP.
