BREAKING: Tribunal Sacks Plateau Assembly Speaker Moses Sule

The National and State Houses of Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal, convened in Jos, the capital of Plateau state, has unseated the incumbent speaker of the state assembly, Moses Sule on Friday, following the nullification of his election as the representative for the Mikang State constituency.

The tribunal’s verdict was grounded in its ruling against Speaker Sule, asserting that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lacked the requisite legal structure to nominate him as a candidate in the last election. This finding, based on legal provisions, raised questions about the legitimacy of his candidacy and subsequent election victory.

In a consequential move, the tribunal directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to revoke the certificate of return previously issued to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and reissue it to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Daniel Nanlong. Nanlong had secured the second-highest number of votes during the election, making him the beneficiary of this ruling.
