Dr. Olayemi Cardoso has officially taken on the role of acting Governor at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), following his recent nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Dr. Cardoso will serve in this capacity until he receives Senate approval when the legislative body resumes its plenary sessions.

This development comes in the wake of the resignation of Mr. Godwin Emefiele as the Governor of the CBN, according to its spokesperson Dr. Isa Abudulmumin.

In addition to Dr. Cardoso’s appointment, the Deputy-Governors-Designate have also assumed their acting roles. This move follows the formal resignation of Mr. Folashodun Shonubi, Mrs. Aishah Ahmad, Mr. Edward Lametek Adamu, and Dr. Kingsley Obiora, who served as Deputy Governors of the CBN.

These appointments signify a transitional phase in Nigeria’s financial leadership as the nation awaits Senate confirmation for these important roles.
