The Jigawa State Police Command has successfully apprehended a 35-year-old man for the theft of a car from a dealer in Bauchi State, following a high-speed chase that ended in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
According to DSP Lawan Shi’isu, the Police spokesperson in Jigawa State, the arrest took place at approximately 11:20 a.m. on a Sunday morning when a patrol team from Birnin Kudu Divisional Police Headquarters intercepted the suspect in the Gwarimpa Quarters of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The suspect was found in possession of a white Honda with no registration number, raising suspicions of theft.
Shi’isu recounted, “Efforts by the police to stop the driver proved abortive when the police officers saw the vehicle at a high speed from a far distance as the driver was scared and refused to reduce his speed.”
As the dramatic pursuit continued, the suspect tragically collided with a motorcyclist, forcing the stolen vehicle to come to a sudden stop. In an attempt to evade arrest, the suspect fled on foot but was later captured and taken into custody.
The initial tip-off that led to the arrest came from neighboring Bauchi State. Shi’isu explained, “We had received a distress call earlier from neighboring Bauchi State that three unidentified persons went to S Fawa Motors along Murtala Muhammad Way in Bauchi and pretended to buy the stolen car. However, one of the sales executives insisted on going with them, and on their way, the suspected vehicle thieves forcefully pushed him out and drove off with the car, leaving him stranded on the highway.”
The rightful owner of the stolen car, identified as Usman Zubairu of Federal Lowcost, Bauchi, has been located. The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, Emmanuel Ekot, has ordered the case to be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Police Headquarters Dutse for a thorough investigation.
Once the investigation is complete, the suspect will face charges in court. Police efforts are underway to apprehend the other suspects involved in this car theft operation.
