The president of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, Olatunbosun Oladapo, has issued a concerning warning regarding the soaring prices of cooking gas at terminals. Unless immediate and effective measures are taken by the federal government, Nigerians could find themselves paying as much as N18,000 for a 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas by December 2023.
Oladapo revealed that the price of cooking gas has seen a dramatic increase, jumping from approximately N9-N10 million per 20 metric tons to a staggering N14 million per 20 metric tons. Even more troubling is his prediction that, without government intervention, the price could potentially skyrocket to N18 million per metric ton by December, resulting in a 12.5kg gas cylinder costing as much as N18,000.
He also mentioned that if the federal government doesn’t intervene, the price of gas could potentially reach N18 million per metric ton by December.
“This would result in a 12.5kg gas cylinder costing as much as N18,000,” he said.
Olatunbosun expressed his worry over Nigerians saying; “Now, the ordinary man would not be able to buy gas. How many minimum wage earners can afford gas now? Everyone is turning to firewood and charcoal.
“The surprising thing was that they visited President Tinubu last week, and promised to work together with his administration to make life better. Now they have come back and started doing something else,”.
