The federal government is presently reviewing the potential of cancelling several abandoned projects left over from past governments. In recent years, these projects, characterised by a lack of obvious funding sources, have caused considerable obstacles and concerns for the government.
The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, made the announcement following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Minister Umahi clarified the government’s intent to thoroughly evaluate these projects during the briefing with state house reporters.
The biggest source of concern for these abandoned projects is the lack of specified funding methods, which has resulted in stagnation and hampered growth. The cancellation of projects lacking long-term funding sources has surfaced as a potential remedy as the government struggles with fiscal restraints and the need to prioritise vital infrastructure improvements.
