Dr. Betta Edu, Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, announced an ambitious plan to address insecurity in the country under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
She made the announcement in Abuja during a courtesy visit to Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, in which she asked for the Nigerian Air Force’s assistance in transporting humanitarian supplies to hard-to-reach locations in Nigeria.
She noted that poverty is a significant enabler of insecurity nationwide. She said, “When we win the war against poverty, we would have won the war against insecurity by over 50 per cent. Please, fly us to those hard-to-reach areas.”
In response, Air Marshal Abubakar pledged his unwavering support to the minister’s cause. He stated, “Your presence here underscores our shared commitment to the well-being of our fellow citizens during their most challenging times.”
She said the collaboration between the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the Nigerian Air Force is an important step in addressing the nation’s poverty and insecurity.
As Nigeria faces insecurity challenges, the Tinubu administration’s emphasis on poverty alleviation reflects a comprehensive approach to construct a more resilient and secure society. Nigeria aspires to establish an atmosphere where residents can thrive, live in peace, and contribute to the nation’s progress by addressing the core causes of insecurity.
