The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) expressed a thunderous rejection of the Presidential Election Tribunal’s (PET) decision to sustain President Bola Tinubu’s election after the tribunal’s ruling.

The tribunal dismissed the multiple claims submitted by the PDP and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, challenging President Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 election on Wednesday.

The five justices, who were led by Haruna Tsammani, came to a unanimous conclusion that Abubakar was unable to substantiate allegations of vote manipulation and anomalies.

The panel also held that Abubakar failed to demonstrate that Tinubu should have been barred from running for office because of a $460,000 forfeiture to the US government, which a Chicago court said was the proceeds of heroin trafficking.

The presidential election of 2023, one of Nigeria’s most important political elections, drew great national and international attention. Different political parties engaged in intense competitiveness for the election, and the PDP fielded a strong candidate.
