The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former vice president of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar have declared their intention to host a world press conference in the wake of a substantial legal loss in the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT).

Remember that PEPT confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s win in the 2023 presidential election by flying the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag.

The news conference is set at 2:30 p.m. at the NEC Hall of the PDP National Headquarters in Abuja.

The ruling was a significant event in Nigeria’s political scene, as Atiku and the PDP had filed a number of accusations, including claims of voting irregularities, voter suppression, and misconduct throughout the election process. These charges were central to their petition, which sought to overturn the presidential election result.

Following the tribunal’s decision, Atiku Abubakar and the PDP have stated their commitment to continue their struggle for what they feel is a more transparent and just electoral system in Nigeria. The upcoming world press conference is planned to provide a venue for them to express their opinions and define their next steps.

Chris Uche, Atiku’s principal counsel, said he had received orders from his client to file an appeal with the Supreme Court.

“The judgment has been delivered, but we have not received justice,” Uche said. “Luckily, the law has given us leverage to go on appeal to the Supreme Court. We have instructions from our clients to go to the Supreme Court. The struggle continues.”

This press conference is expected to shed light on their response to the tribunal’s decision and outline their plans moving forward in the complex and ever-evolving landscape of Nigerian politics.
