Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu officially launched the much-anticipated Blue Rail Line project, which will help alleviate transit and road congestion in the city.
On Monday, Sanwo-Olu boarded the first train from Marina to Mile 2, accompanied by the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; the Director of Rail-LAMATA, Olasunkanmi Okusaga; the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat; the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo; the wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr. With five (5) stations located in Marina, National Theatre, Iganmu, Alaba, and Orile, the Blue Rail Line runs from Marina to Mile 2.
The Blue Rail Line project, conceived as part of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to enhancing the transportation infrastructure in Lagos, has been a vision long in the making. The launch of this ambitious endeavor marks a watershed moment in the history of the state, setting the stage for a brighter, more efficient future for Lagosians.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu urge Nigerians to be decent and cautious while disembarking from the train, stating that there are security measures put in place.
The construction of the Blue Rail Line started in 2009 funded by the State Internal Generated Revenue and it begins operation in year 2023 under the adminsistration of Babjide Sanwo-Olu. He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for putting in place the intermodal transportation master plan for the state, which included rail, water and road infrastructure, said with the completion and kick off of commercial operations of the Blue Line Rail, the Red Line Rail project would be commissioned by the President.
He said the commissioning would be done before the end of the year. He also disclosed that train stations and bridges built along with the Red Line rail project would be commissioned by the first week of October.
