Nasarawa State Governor yesterday disclosed that the National Economy Council ( NEC) did not outrightly reject the previous administration national social register being used for conditional cash transfer (CCT) rather the NEC sought for review of the register to enhance inclusion of more people.
He stated in a Channels Television Program Politics Today monitored by Abuja City Journal on Friday night.
He noted: ” The President want to carry the Governors along in the distribution of these palliatives and also the Governors are not relying on the palliatives coming from FG alone, we are working toward our own palliatives to supplement what the Federal Government is giving”
“The removal of subsidy is going to be longer than the payment of this money so the government is working on something that is sustainable”
It will be recalled that the National Economy Council on Thursday questioned the integrity of the current social register being used for conditional cash transfer program in a communique read by Governor of Anambra State Professor Charles Soludo
He said contrary to what the previous administration projected, it is not possible to digitally transfer money to the poorest of the poor the majority of whom are unbankable.
He said: “We need to face the problem of the fact that we don’t have a credible register”.
According to him, NEC resolved that the states should come up with their own registers using formal and informal means to develop it, assuring that all beneficiaries at the subnational level could easily been accessed that way.
Soludo explained that NEC deliberated on ways to cushion the impact of the recent petroleum subsidy removal.
