I needed somewhere I will learn how to make cars (2) -Jerry Mallo
Contd...
leave school completely but my kind of Visa will not permit me to... the only option was to apply for a different kind of Visa and the thing is one has to go back to Nigeria and when you're in Nigeria reapplying will be difficult. You must have a letter from this big company and who I'm I ? So it was basically impossible, the only way is go back home build a Name, build a brand that will attract them to give you that kind of attention, I changed my course for a while and learnt business marketing I knew what I was going to do when I get to Nigeria, so after a while I dropped out.
Eng Mike: So that's your second year..
Jerry Mallo: yes (continues)So I came back, coming back I had alot of exposure that helped my foundation and at that time I had learnt that if you need money there were soft loan and I needed money to start establishment the manufacturing of those car I was passionate about. But the thing is cars was not a problem and still not a problem in Nigeria and the problems were in the agricultural sector and to build agro equipment was like a thing, so I said why not build Agro equipment and save money from it then use it to build your car brand.. then I kept my passion aside and went for the needs, then I started building, even came back and met my family in the family house the person I was squating with was very unhappy for a while... I had to regain his trust back, we stayed in a family society so I started by making a maize stretcher, and before it took us 3weeks to stretch maize harvested but we did it in 3days, some neighbour saw it, their stated paying to trash theirs, some big farmers pay me to mill theirs, but another farmers will see, somebody come up and say alot of people want this, i would like to be giving you from every farmer output, and we all agreed, gradually the work was becoming too much and i needed more hand, i needed more apprentice, we became 2, became 5 that is how everything started(now how many are all of you?) now we are 47 (fantastic good job) it’s basically expiring, i would not like letting the passion die, and skills is something if you stay for a while without practicing it will die
(of course).
we always put our hands-on deck as alot of young guys working with me are also passionate, they are fascinated by those car issue, from time to time we put hand and learn more so as to be prepared for the future.
Engineer Mike: I think you have done well, you story is a story of passion it's not that you learn how to make car in school, you learn from field yea yea that is a story of passion and one thing i can assure you is that I think you are at the right place.
When he Came I said he is with you. I was very happy that is why I said it immediately to my team, and here we are passionate about innovation, it does not matter which field you are related like agriculture, mobility is very interesting to us, so its one of the thing, I am an engineer and I practice in the US for about 14 years before I decided I was coming back home.
It is then I realise that like you said you have to solve problems to make money and the problem I came back to solve was interestedly in agriculture and you talked about this tracing, I also have this problem too, we have a 200 hecters of maize farm we will be harvesting it in a couple of month we planted in June/July. So I can almost promise you we will definitely make partner with that, because our target is to feed life stock, because we are trying to solve the issue of hardmen/farmers clash, when it come to livestock farming we created a private ranch, its about 100km from here, one of this day you will visit. At that Bio-ranch we turn the corn into feed, feed the animal ,and we sell the animals, we supply shoprite , Spar and the rest of them.
We have our own franchise, with again we start from the feed that is the grain. that is to make the hardman and the farmer cooperative instead of fighting each other, we saw that problem you are trying to solve was my agric passion, sorry to say, I can promise you it's beyond that Innovation Hub at Lofty Inc. We see a lot of innovators, inventors like yourself that require that encouragement the market move the opportunity to grow, and in growth, to us, not only In nigeria we saw regional champion in Africa and we need to connect them to global leader like Fonder, those guys are one min away, they are around like, we been here like 11 years this is our 12th year of existence, our goal is to make sure those hidden light like yourself got exposed to the world, imagine.
Let’s take it and commercialize and also industrialize it suitably for our firm. It change your reach and capacity. An investment from Honda changes you completely 100% You might be doing and all of a sudden. In fact what makes Apple what it is today, Steve Jobs was out of Apple, the company was already crashed, then he came back then mocrosoft , Bill Gate decided to put 100 million dollars. Bill gate was the one that revived Apple with funding but the partnership allowed Microsoft word and mocrosoft power point to be installed because every time people had to use the Apple software, it still make sense for them because they still have to transport it out and use the Microsoft dominated index for marketing so he said no, “i would not let competitor die because they have something unique about them.
Their design and capacity are different from my own software which I sell to everybody” and that partnership is what makes Apple one of the most valuable IT company in the world today even more valuable than Microsoft. The idea to us is that global partnership that’s why the name “WENNOVATION” take out the “ I” in Innovation. How do we bring about collaboration and that is what will excel in facilitating those collaboration and I’m very sure that working with our team at lofty Inc. and WEnnovation can definitely find a way of collaborating to make what you are doing a pillar because my vision is not just 47 people and we should be employing 5,000 why not, GM today can easily employ 50,000 people in their plant across the U. S and many more when considering their value change. There is no reason why BENNIE AUTOMOBILE and BENNIE AGRO cannot be employing many Nigerians in many years to come.
I look forward with working with you.
Thank you so much, it’s a pleasure.
