House Leadership: Gbajabiamila, Wase Clash At Plenary

There was a clash between Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and his Deputy, Ahmed Idris Wase during a plenary session on Wednesday.
Lawmakers were alarmed when the Speaker announced that the Order Paper for Thursday would be made lighter to allow members to attend the official commissioning of the permanent site of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS.
The Deputy Speaker however opposed this decision, stating that the primary business of the House was lawmaking and other official businesses which the Speaker responded by saying that the importance of NILDS was not clear to the Deputy Speaker.
This disagreement has caused a division between the two leaders, with the Deputy Speaker avoiding the usual leadership meetings and accusing the Speaker of supporting another candidate for the Speakership position.
