Social Media Trends for Wednesday 9th September 2020

Nigerians have blasted the People's Democratic Party (PDP) after it said that Nigerians could not survive the hike in fuel price and electricity tariff.

Channels Television reported that the PDP, while reacting to the price hike in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, regretted that the increment came amid the poverty level allegedly foisted by the Buhari-led administration.

But some social media users lampooned the Party, as they stressed that it was partly responsible for the current upheavals facing the country. They said as a major opposition Party, it had failed to engage the government constructively and could neither proffer solution to any of the challenges on which it was criticizing government.

They also submitted that the Party, most times, acted out of its selfish interest, hence could not put up formidable opposition to unfavorable policies that affected the masses.

The hashtag trended after some national dailies reported that the Federal Government directed public hospitals to replace striking doctors with NYSC members.

The directive which was said to have been given by the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire in Abuja on Wednesday, was to forestall disruption of services, especially in this COVID-19 era.

While some Nigerians who reacted to the development on social media urged the Federal Government to amicably resolve the dispute with the striking doctors, others expressed fears that the health sector would be in a mess now that NYSC doctors, who according to them, are largely inexperienced, are to attend to the health needs of Nigerians.
