Ten people have been reportedly kidnapped in Kagara and Katcha communities in Niger state.
The bandits were said to have kidnapped the Director of Kongeama Table Water, Alhaji Aminu alongside six others in Kagara.
They first went to the Government Technical College, Kagara, before entering into the village to continue their operations.
There may be possibilities the bandits were hoping to abduct another group of students, sources said.
It was learned what made the situation better was the absence of students in school as the state government had ordered closure of all boarding schools in the abduction-prone areas of the state.
In Katcha community, bandits attacked and abducted three people in the community.
The banduts, according to information, attacked the town at about 1 am on Sunday and operated for three hours.
Chairman of Katcha local government, Alhaji Mohammad Baba Nna, confirmed the attacks in a telephone interview.
According to him, three people were abducted, adding no one has heard from them since when they were abducted till when the time of filing this report.
Said he: “The incident happened around 1 am and lasted for three good hours, they went away with three persons who are businessmen in the town and we are yet to hear from them.
“They came with very sophisticated weapons and I am sure that’s why the Policemen were afraid to come to their rescue during the incident,” he said.
Efforts to ascertain the story were unsuccessful as the police spokesperson for Niger state, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, was not picking his calls when contacted.
