Meet The Yoruba Man Who's The Highest Ranking Officer in The Nigeria Military
Nigeria is a country with different ethnic groups. This is a beautiful thing as the diverse in culture, language, and religion are what sums up the country as an interesting one. The heterogeneous ethnicity in the country isn't without its own disadvantages but Nigerians have been able to manage and apply tolerance to co-exist together as a people and as a nation.
The appointment of people to public offices is one of the most important thing that happens in our country and needs wisdom. Because if the difference in ethnicity, the President applies plenty of wisdom to.make sure that these appointments are spread across all ethnic groups. It's quite sad that people who don't have deep knowledge often feel there's bias in the appointments, but if we look deeply with utmost sincerity and to promote national peace, every ethnic group is fairly represented.

Let's take a look at the military. Everyone usually thinks Leiutenant General Tukur Buratai is the highest ranking officer in the military because he's the Chief of Army Staff. This is not totally true. All other parts of the military have their chief; the Chief of Navy Staff is Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas from Cross River state and thhe Chief of Air Staff is Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
However, they all report to a higher ranking officer, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olonisakin Abayomi Gabriel. He was born on 2nd of December, 1961. He's a Yoruba man from Ekiti state. Olonisakin had his secondary school education at the Nigeria Military school before he moved on to the Nigeria Defense Academy. Passionate about improving himself, he went to the Obafemi Awolowo University where he bagged a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Olonisakin is married to an indigene of Oyo state, Omobolanle Olonisakin. They are both alumni of the Obafemi Awolowo University. Their marriage had produced two children namely Fiyinfoluwa and Oluwatobiloba.
Olonisakin was commissioned into the Nigerian Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1981. In 2015, he was decorated as a 4 star General which indicates he's a higher ranking officer when compared to the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, who's a 3 star officer. After his decoration as a 4 star General, he was appointed as the Chief of Defence staff. The Chiefs of other military parastatals all report to him.
The point remains, those at the helms of affairs are trying to make sure everything is balanced when it comes to appointment. Also, we need to clear the misconception that Buratai is the highest ranking officer in the country.
