The Chairman of Takum local government of Taraba state, Mr. Tikari Shiban narrowly escaped death in the early hours of Saturday following an attack on his convoy by unidentified gunmen in Dogongaawa village in the council.
But the police ordely attached to the Chairman lost his life during the attack.
The Chairman of the council, Shiban who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on phone said the bandits opened fire on his convoy chairman when he was passing through Dogongawa village at about 7.30 am on Saturday
He said the bandits who were hiding in the bush near Dogongawa village opened fire on sighting his convoy, adding that his police orderly was hit by the bullets and died instantly.
He said the deceased policeman was from the 67 Mobile Police Squadron, located in the Council.
According to the attack, the chairman, the bandits in their numbers, launched attack on his convoy while on his way to Takum which claimed live of the deceased.
He called for more redeployment of security personnel to the area.
Takum and Wukari councils, in the southern Taraba in recent time have being under severe attacks believed to have been masterminded by the late Gana Boys who according to sources have lay seize to the area.
