Confusion broke out in the Tungan-Maje community of Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as two persons were on Tuesday abducted.
Eyewitness accounts said a police officer was shot in his attempt to stop the abduction.
According to a resident, Ibrahim Saidu, the gunmen, whose number could not be ascertained, went on rampage as they engaged the police and some members of the local vigilance group in a shootout.
He explained the gunmen who first attacked residents of Anguwar Samu in Tungan-Maje, dreagges two persons away from the community after a gun battle that lasted over an hour.
According to him, after the police were overpowered, the kidnappers proceeded to the new poultry area of the council where they also abducted two residents.
He said the police officer and a vigilante member, who sustained injuries in the incident, have been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
Police spokesperson for the FCT Command, ASP Maryam Yusuf, was unreachable for confirmations.
