A middle-aged man has been crushed to death by a tipper driver along Owerri road in Onitsha, Anambra state. It happened on Sunday.
Findings revealed the deceased was crossing the busy expressway when he was knocked down by the truck driver who then was driving against traffic
the State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Andrew Kumapayi, confirmed the incident, adding the corpse had been deposited at the morgue upon doctor’s confirmation.
He adviced pedestrians to always use pedestrian bridges where available and observe traffic regulations anytime they were using the road.
Said he: “At about 1140hrs this Sunday 13th December 2020, a middle-aged man was crushed by a Tipper driver whose identity was not captured with a blue MAN Disel truck without registration number recorded near Owerri road by City biscuit junction, Onitsha.
“According to eyewitnesses, the truck driver took one way and eventually crushes a male adult who was crossing the expressway after alighting from a Tricycle.
“The crash involves a total of three male adults including the crushed victim who was rushed to Toronto hospital by men of the NPF before the arrival of FRSC rescue team from Upper Iweka Outpost who are on ground to ensure the free flow of traffic while obstruction is being cleared.
"While condoling with the deceased family, Kumapayi warned motorists especially truck drivers to desist from route violation (one-way Driving) as the Corps will not take it lightly with anyone caught Driving one way," he said.
