From all of us at the Osinbajo Grassroots Organisation, we celebrate with our role model and father figure, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. Today, it is not by accident that his admirers, both online and offline have gone awash with glowing tributes to identify with a man that represents excellence, loyalty and dynamism.
Whether as a University Teacher, Pastor, Commissioner and now Vice President, Prof. Osinbajo has always been a man with a mind as sharp as the razor and a photographic memory of past events with undiluted clarity. Today, one can easily conclude that the vice president is little by little emerging a living library in Nigeria’s political history, wisdom, knowledge and native intelligence.
To us at Osinbajo Grassroots Organisation, we are celebrating our man today for the way he has redefined governance and demonstrated leadership through service to humanity. As it has been well documented, politics to all intents and purposes is supposed to be a noble profession where service to mankind is the aim. As Aristotle aptly puts it, “the good of man must be the objective of the science of politics” It is however unfortunate that all over the world, Nigeria inclusive, politics and politicians are hardly associated with nobility of purpose and public spiritedness.
Looking at today’s politicians and their ways, Osinbajo have turned out to be one of those few ones who are giving us a semblance of what an ideal politician should be. In him, we see hope and in him we see the Nigeria of our dream. He has demonstrated loyalty and he has preached love. In the midst of tribulations, the Vice President remains calm and positive. At every given opportunity, President Muhammadu Buhari tells anybody who care to listen that in Osinbajo, he sees a loyal and dedicated deputy.
Like the consummate leader and progressive-minded politician he is, Osinbajo doesn’t believe in self-glorification and avarice which unfortunately are the pastimes of some of our leaders. In this respect, the Vice President is a perfect example of Georges Pompidous’ definition of a statesman as ‘a politician who places himself at the service of the nation’ as opposed to politicians who place the nation at their services. Osinbajo is in all ramifications a statesman extraordinary who is more concerned in developing people and touching lives. He wants the best for the country and wants the best for all. Again, Happy birthday, Mr. Stabilizer!
