UNIBEN Closed, Students Asked to Vacate Premises

Due to the on-going protest, the students of the university of Benin have been asked to vacate the hostels and the school premises not later than 12 noon on Wednesday,15th, September, 2021.
Few weeks into resumption, Students took to the streets on Tuesday, 14th September to protest against the hike in fees and also imposition of N20,000 for late registration made by the institution.
In view of this ongoing protests, the vice chancellor, prof Lilian Salami reviewed the agitation by a section of the students’ body on Tuesday 14th September,2021.
"After due consultation, and in the overall interest of the general students' body, the vice chancellor has, on behalf of the senate, approved the closure of the university with immediate effect.
"This is based on security reports to avoid the students' action being hijacked by hoodlums; and thereby prevent any form of breakdown of law and order within and outside the campuses of the university.
"Accordingly, all students are to vacate the hostels and the university premises not later than 12 noon on Wednesday 15th, September 2021."
Students in rage have also made up their minds to continue the protests today, saying their voices must be heard.
