Sequel to the just concluded off cycle Governorship election in Kogi state, declaring Usman Ododo of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) as winner by the Independent National \u00a0Electoral Commission (INEC), aggrieved parties have resolved to seek redress in court.<\/p>\n
Abuja City Journal has been hinted of moves by Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, the President of the Court of Appeal, to relocate the Kogi Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal from Lokoja to Abuja. This disclosure was made by David Umar Mike, secretary of the tribunal, stating that its sitting would now be at the National Judicial Institute on Umar Yar\u2019Adua Way. He therefore, urged litigants to take note of the change of venue.<\/p>\n
The statement, however, failed to disclose the reason behind the relocation but a top source at the tribunal said the step was necessitated by \u201csecurity reasons,\u201d to forestall acts of thuggery on its personnel.<\/p>\n
According to the source, several members of staff of the tribunal had been attacked on numerous occasions in Lokoja.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust last Monday, tribunal officials were attacked on the way to the office. Armed men just pounced on the officials. They robbed them of everything. They carted away all the documents that were in the car. Copies of petitions and personal belongings, official receipts, processes like subpoenas, and official stamps were all stolen.
