The Federal Government of Nigeria has formally signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the creation of a 1 Gigawatt (GW) Solar PV Manufacturing plant, marking a key step toward securing a reliable energy supply for its inhabitants. The agreement was signed during the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, by the Infrastructure Corporation (Infracorp), Solarge BV of the Netherlands, and the African Green Infrastructure Investment Bank.<\/p>\n
Dr Lazarus Angbaso, the Chief Executive Officer of Infracorp, outlined the project’s objective, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize Nigeria’s energy sector and elevate the economy to a remarkable $1 trillion through sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure. He highlighted the project’s focus on local manufacturing, green manufacturing, renewable energy, equipment manufacturing, and climate-resilient infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Addressing the urgent need for improved power infrastructure in Nigeria, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, acknowledged the dire state of the current power situation. He pointed to challenges such as insufficient transmission infrastructure and limited distribution capacity hindering power generation. Stressing the importance of adequate energy supply for unlocking the nation’s full potential, Adelabu assured the international community of the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s government to fulfill its promises.<\/p>\n
