On Sunday, the Defense Headquarters justified a drone attack on Ligarma community in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, asserting that it was conducted based on intelligence indicating the presence of terrorists in the region.<\/p>\n
Major-General Edward Buba, the Director of Defense Media Operations, stated in a Tuesday release that the Nigerian Army Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) detachment detected terrorist activities in Ligarma around 10 pm on Sunday. Ligarma is recognized as an area infested with terrorists in Kaduna State.<\/p>\n
According to Buba, aerial surveillance identified the movement of groups displaying characteristics consistent with terrorist tactics and methods. He clarified that the observed advancement of the gathered terrorists posed a threat to key infrastructure within the range of their activities.<\/p>\n
According to him, the threat was eliminated to prevent the terrorist from unleashing terror on innocent civilians.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt should be noted that terrorists often deliberately embed themselves within civilian populated centers for civilian to bear the consequences of their atrocities.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, the Nigerian military does its best at all times to distinguish between civilians and terrorists.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe military views every civilian death in the cause of operations as a tragedy as such tragedies are needless and unwanted, which causes the armed forces to take extensive measures to avoid them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to him, one such measure taken by the military is to continually give precise instructions to communities.<\/p>\n
