{"id":904,"date":"2023-07-26T17:08:56","date_gmt":"2023-07-26T17:08:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=904"},"modified":"2023-07-26T17:08:56","modified_gmt":"2023-07-26T17:08:56","slug":"federal-universities-remain-tuition-free-says-presidency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2023\/07\/26\/federal-universities-remain-tuition-free-says-presidency\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal Universities Remain Tuition Free Says Presidency"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<div class=\"entry-meta\">\n<div class=\"date\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2077\" src=\"https:\/\/thecrux.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/10845759_562588737178134_735113360229607561_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Federal Government has not increased tuition fee in any of its funded universities as tuition remains free.<\/p>\n<p>This is as the presidency revealed that it has not introduced tuition fee in any of the institutions, despite the hike in ancillary fees at several universities nationwide.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The CRUX<\/strong>\u00a0reported that Federal Government-owned University of Lagos (UNILAG) recently hiked the fees payable by its students at over 100 per cent amidst similar increments in Federal Government Unity Schools.<\/p>\n<p>This has generated outrage among parents and stakeholders who expressed rejections to the increments at the time Nigerians are confronted with hardship from harsh economic policies of the government.<\/p>\n<p>A statement on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communication and Strategy, Mr Dele Alake, said Federal universities remain tuition-free<\/p>\n<p>Alake added that President Bola Tinubu\u2019s administration is also working on other measures to make education reachable to all, besides the Students\u2019 Loans Scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the wrong understanding of what recently happened in some federal universities, where fees have been hiked, the Presidency explained that the tuition item on the list of payable fees of such school remains remains without a price-tag.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was widely reported earlier this week across some news media outlets that the Federal Government had increased tuition fees in federal universities in the country.<\/p>\n<p>It said the authorities of these universities had explained the rationale behind these new fees, adding that the Bola Tinubu administration \u201cremains committed to his promise of ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of the economic situation of their parents, has access to quality tertiary education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the Students\u2019 Loans Scheme, under the Student Loans Bill signed into law by President Tinubu in June, which will go into implementation ahead of the next academic session in September, Alake said the Federal Government will also strengthen other mechanisms to support indigent students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParts of the government\u2019s plans to make sure all diligent students complete their education on time, notwithstanding their parents\u2019 financial situation, include work-study, merit-based scholarships and grants,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n<p>The Crux<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government has not increased tuition fee in any of its funded universities as tuition remains free.
