Abdulkadir Ahmed, the Managing Director/CEO of NSML, shared this achievement during the NSML Fleet Officers Conference gala night in Lagos over the weekend.

While addressing reporters, Ahmed emphasized that the Nigerianisation target aimed for a comprehensive inclusion of Nigerian officers managing NSML vessels. Despite being an international company engaged in global business, a strategic decision was made to reserve 15% of positions for foreign seafarers, fostering a cultural mix within the maritime workforce.

“We reached the milestone of having 85% Nigerian officers onboard our vessels in December 2022, and we are committed to maintaining this balance,” Ahmed stated.

The NSML Fleet Officers Conference, held biennially, serves as a platform for officers onboard vessels to engage with leadership, socialize, assess the company’s performance, and strategize for the future.

“Our officers play a crucial role in managing our vital asset, the vessel. The Officers’ Conference facilitates a valuable connection between those at sea and our office leadership. The Maritime Academy of Nigeria, according to him, adheres to these international standards, providing the required certifications for officers on oceangoing vessels.

The Officers’ Conference, both locally and internationally, aims to incorporate a diverse mix of seafarers. While the majority of officers attending the Nigerian conference were Nigerians, the company also facilitated the participation of foreign officers.
