Four members of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) were killed when their own Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) detonated unexpectedly in San San village, located in the Mobbor local government area of Borno State.<\/p>\n
Reports gathered by LEADERSHIP reveal that the terrorists’ bomb exploded during their attempt to plant IEDs near the 5 Brigade troops’ station on Wednesday. The blast resulted in the fragmentation of their bodies, marking a grim end for the perpetrators.<\/p>\n
Simultaneously, troops from the MNJTF Sector 4, stationed on Chetima Wongonu, made a significant discovery of an IED in the vicinity of Chetimari Village. The incident unfolded following a night where suspected ISWAP terrorists opened fire in Chetimari, aiming to lure the troops into the vicinity of the IEDs.<\/p>\n
Despite the assailants’ efforts, the troops resisted the provocation and later located the IEDs around 6:30 pm, successfully neutralizing the threat.<\/p>\n
Counter-insurgency expert and security analyst Zagazola Makama, based in Lake Chad, emphasized that despite setbacks in terms of battlefield defeats and territorial losses, the insurgents persist in their deployment of IEDs. Makama explained that ISWAP resorts to various types of IEDs, including person-borne (PBIEDs), vehicle-borne (VBIEDs), remote control, and timed devices.
