The Afenifere socio-political group has urged the Federal Government to ensure the operationalization of the Port Harcourt Refinery by the December deadline. The group, under the leadership of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, emphasized that meeting this timeline would help alleviate the impact of the subsidy removal on Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petroleum, for Nigerians. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, had previously committed to bringing the Port Harcourt refinery back into operation by December as part of the government’s strategy to eliminate petroleum product imports.<\/p>\n
With the removal of petrol subsidy in his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023, the price per litre of petrol rose from N184 to over N600 in most parts of the country.
\nWith the December deadline already here, Afenifere, in a statement signed by its spokesman, Jare Ajayi, urged the administration of President Bola Tinubu to meet the deadline.<\/p>\n
Afenifere \u201curged the government to ensure that the deadlines given are adhered to\u201d.
