The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the North-West region, Salihu Moh\u2019 Lukman, has expressed his disagreement with the endorsement of former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as the National Chairman of the ruling party by the Progressives Governors\u2019 Forum (PGF).<\/p>\n
Lukman believes that the party’s governors should consider themselves the conscience of the party, and endorsing a candidate for the highest position in the party is unfair to both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders of the party who are not part of the PGF.<\/p>\n
Recently, the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and the National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore, resigned from their positions, with the PGF describing it as resignations based on ‘Personal Conviction.’<\/p>\n
In a letter addressed to the Forum’s Chairman and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, Lukman explained his concerns about the public announcement of the endorsement of Dr. Ganduje, considering the implications on other leaders within the party and Dr. Ganduje himself.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that, based on his experience as the former Director General of PGF, such decisions should be communicated internally first, and necessary consultations made with the National Working Committee (NWC) or, at least, the National Chairman.<\/p>\n
Lukman expressed his disappointment at only encountering the endorsement through the media, and raised questions about whether the PGF, under Uzodinma’s leadership, is committed to restoring constitutional order in the APC and aligning with the party’s founding vision.<\/p>\n
He further pointed out that the endorsement appeared to deviate from the traditional role of the PGF as the conscience of the party, and highlighted the potential unfairness to the North Central region, as the position of National Chairman is zoned to that region.<\/p>\n
He however appealed to the PGF Chairman to return the Forum to its conventional role of safeguarding the interests of all members and regions in the party, urging them not to promote or condone decisions that could be perceived as unjust or unfair. He also stressed the importance of protecting the party’s interests and ensuring that all decisions are made with due diligence and consideration for all members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
