The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Taraba State has raised concerns about the region’s status as a hub for illicit drug consumption, with individuals between the ages of 16 and 46 being the most affected demographic.<\/p>\n
During a meeting with the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) state council on Wednesday, the State Commandant of NDLEA, Nanzing Sallah, highlighted the prevalence of drugs such as marijuana, codeine, tramadol, and methamphetamine (ice) in the state. He attributed this alarming trend to the activities of drug traffickers who exploit Taraba as a transit point.<\/p>\n
Sallah also drew a connection between the high rate of criminal activities in the state and drug abuse, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to address the issue. He reported numerous arrests and seizures of hard drugs in the state, showcasing the agency’s commitment to tackling the problem.<\/p>\n
Commending the state government’s initiative to establish a rehabilitation center, Sallah expressed optimism that such a facility would play a significant role in rehabilitating drug abusers. He pledged the NDLEA’s dedication to collaborating with the NUJ to raise awareness and restore the state’s image.<\/p>\n
