The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has elected new principal officers to steer the affairs of the Conference.<\/p>\n
The information was released by the National Directorate of Social Communications, CSN, Abuja.<\/p>\n
The elections were conducted on Monday, February 24, 2026, during the First Plenary of the bishops held at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Abuja.<\/p>\n
Emerging as President of the Conference is the Archbishop of Kaduna, Matthew Man\u2019oso Ndagoso. He will be assisted by the Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Adewale Martins, who was elected Vice President.<\/p>\n
Also elected is the Bishop of Abeokuta, Peter Odetoyinbo, as Secretary of the Conference, while the Bishop of Abakaliki, Peter Chukwu, emerged as Assistant Secretary.<\/p>\n
In addition to the principal officers, other bishops were elected to oversee various directorates, departments and units of the Secretariat and CBCN agencies.<\/p>\n
According to a statement signed by the Secretary General of the Secretariat, Very Rev. Fr. Michael Ayanleke Banjo, the newly elected officers will be officially presented at the closing ceremony of the plenary scheduled for Wednesday, February 25, 2026.<\/p>\n
The CBCN is the highest decision-making body of the Catholic Church in Nigeria, bringing together bishops across the country to deliberate on matters affecting the Church and the nation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
