The Kano State Government has announced plans to deploy tracking technology on commercial vehicles and tricycles as part of efforts to strengthen security across the state.<\/p>\n
The Commissioner for Transportation, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, disclosed this on Saturday while addressing stakeholders in the transport sector, citing rising population, increasing vehicular inflow, and emerging security threats in the state.<\/p>\n
Dederi said the initiative became necessary despite Kano\u2019s relative peace, noting that car theft and the use of tricycles, popularly known as Adadata, to cart away valuables from residents had become alarming.<\/p>\n
He also raised concerns over the infiltration of bandits and other criminal elements into the state, assuring that the government was ready to deploy technology-driven measures to curb crime and protect lives and property.<\/p>\n
According to him, Kano has already installed surveillance infrastructure at major entry and exit points, strategic roads, junctions and neighbourhoods, adding that the new tracking device would further help security agencies detect and monitor the movement and \u201cfootprints\u201d of vehicles.<\/p>\n
He explained that enforcement would begin with commercial transport before extending to private vehicles and tricycles.<\/p>\n
A representative of the private firm handling the project, Dr. Aminu Umar Maigari, said vehicle and tricycle owners would pay N28,000 for the hardware and administrative charges before installation.<\/p>\n
Security agencies and transport unions present at the meeting pledged their support for the initiative, assuring cooperation in enforcement to sustain peace and development in Kano.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
