{"id":82459,"date":"2026-02-05T05:03:01","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T05:03:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=82459"},"modified":"2026-02-05T05:03:01","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T05:03:01","slug":"ekiti-dioceses-first-female-catechist-oguntuase-marks-70","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/02\/05\/ekiti-dioceses-first-female-catechist-oguntuase-marks-70\/","title":{"rendered":"Ekiti Diocese\u2019s First Female Catechist, Oguntuase, Marks 70"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By John Kayode Ayodele<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Catechist Florence Mojisola Oguntuase, popularly known as Auntie Flora and the first woman commissioned as a catechist in the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, celebrated her 70th birthday on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Cathedral, Ado Ekiti.<\/p>\n<p>The thanksgiving Mass drew the Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, priests, consecrated brothers and sisters, and dignitaries from within and outside the country.<\/p>\n<p>In his homily, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr Benedict Bimbola Joseph, thanked God for the life of the celebrant, describing her as a pious, humble, docile, hardworking and devoted lover of God.<\/p>\n<p>He said the diocese would not forget Oguntuase\u2019s selfless contributions to the Church, noting her impact on catechumens through faith formation, her charity to the vulnerable, and her long-standing support for priests, religious and lay faithful.<\/p>\n<p>Fr Joseph also highlighted her role as a skilled fashion designer, recalling that she produced clerical vestments, choir robes, Mass servers\u2019 vestments and other liturgical materials used across the diocese.<\/p>\n<p>He prayed for her continued good health and appreciated her children for celebrating her while she is alive, urging them to remain close to her.<\/p>\n<p>The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Femi Ajakaye, represented by the Vicar General, Rev. Fr Felix Temitope Odesanmi, congratulated Oguntuase and her family, commending her years of service as a catechist and her contributions through her tailoring work, which he said had benefited many parishes.<\/p>\n<p>The bishop advised the celebrant to draw closer to God, avoid unnecessary stress and embrace regular medical check-ups, while praying for her strength and well-being.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr Anthony Oluwaseun Oguntuase thanked God for His protection and appreciated Bishop Ajakaye for giving the celebrant the opportunity to serve in the Church.<\/p>\n<p>He also thanked priests, religious and members of the diocese for their prayers and support.<\/p>\n<p>Oguntuase was born on January 30, 1956, in Iyin Ekiti.
