{"id":82230,"date":"2026-01-27T16:15:51","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T16:15:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=82230"},"modified":"2026-01-27T16:15:51","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T16:15:51","slug":"dhq-dismisses-claims-of-neglect-of-wounded-soldiers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/27\/dhq-dismisses-claims-of-neglect-of-wounded-soldiers\/","title":{"rendered":"DHQ Dismisses Claims of Neglect of Wounded Soldiers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Defence Headquarters has refuted claims circulating on social media that Nigerian soldiers wounded in action are neglected, describing the allegations as misleading and contrary to the welfare framework of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Tuesday, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the welfare of wounded personnel remains a top priority, warning that inaccurate portrayals could undermine public confidence in the military.<\/p>\n<p>The DHQ was responding to a viral video by content creator Lucky Udu Studio, which featured interviews with injured soldiers and alleged abandonment by authorities. Uba said all personnel wounded during operations are entitled to comprehensive medical care in line with established policies.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, injured soldiers receive treatment in military hospitals and specialised civilian facilities, while critically wounded personnel are evacuated abroad when necessary. He added that the welfare package covers medical evacuation, surgery, rehabilitation, prosthetics, counselling, family support and sustained command oversight.<\/p>\n<p>Uba noted that personnel unable to continue service due to injuries are entitled to pensions, gratuities and other statutory benefits, while families of those killed in action receive death benefits, insurance payouts and educational support.<\/p>\n<p>Citing the participation of wounded soldiers in the Invictus Games, the DHQ said the initiative underscores the military\u2019s commitment to the recovery and reintegration of injured personnel.<\/p>\n<p>While acknowledging the need for continuous improvement, the DHQ cautioned against sweeping claims that could discourage enlistment, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare and dignity of its personnel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata The Defence Headquarters has refuted claims circulating on social media that Nigerian soldiers wounded in action are neglected, describing the allegations as misleading and contrary to the welfare framework of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
