{"id":82083,"date":"2026-01-25T04:34:30","date_gmt":"2026-01-25T04:34:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=82083"},"modified":"2026-01-25T04:34:30","modified_gmt":"2026-01-25T04:34:30","slug":"dss-detention-malami-alleges-obstruction-of-legal-defence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/25\/dss-detention-malami-alleges-obstruction-of-legal-defence\/","title":{"rendered":"DSS Detention: Malami Alleges Obstruction of Legal Defence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Chika Malami, has raised concerns over his continued detention by the Department of State Services (DSS), alleging denial of access to his legal team and obstruction of his right to prepare a defence.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued on Saturday by his aide, Bello Muhammed Doka, Malami said he was rearrested by the DSS after meeting bail conditions granted by a court over allegations linked to interim asset forfeiture.<\/p>\n<p>Doka alleged that Malami has been held for over five days without access to his lawyers and without the release of his international passport, despite these being part of his bail conditions, describing the situation as a violation of his constitutional rights.<\/p>\n<p>The statement further claimed that Malami\u2019s arrest preceded formal investigations, which it said contravened due process.
