{"id":81994,"date":"2026-01-21T19:19:44","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T19:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81994"},"modified":"2026-01-21T19:19:44","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T19:19:44","slug":"court-directs-inec-to-recognise-nenadi-usman-as-labour-party-chairman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/21\/court-directs-inec-to-recognise-nenadi-usman-as-labour-party-chairman\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Directs INEC to Recognise Nenadi Usman as Labour Party Chairman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja has removed the Julius Abure-led executive of the Labour Party and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Senator Nenadi Usman as the party\u2019s national chairman.<br \/>\nJustice Peter Lifu, in a ruling delivered on Wednesday, held that the Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee is the authentic leadership of the party pending the conduct of a national convention.<\/p>\n<p>The court directed INEC to immediately recognise the Usman-led committee as the only valid authority representing the Labour Party for electoral purposes.<br \/>\nThe judgment followed a suit marked THC\/ABJ\/CS\/2262\/2025 filed by Usman. Justice Lifu reaffirmed the April 4, 2024 judgment of the Supreme Court, which invalidated the Abure-led executive.<\/p>\n<p>The court dismissed Abure\u2019s argument that the matter was an internal party affair, ruling that the establishment of a caretaker committee was a necessity arising from the Supreme Court\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>It would be recalled that the party\u2019s National Executive Committee had earlier removed Abure as chairman following a leadership crisis and subsequently constituted a 29-member caretaker committee chaired by Usman.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu A Federal High Court in Abuja has removed the Julius Abure-led executive of the Labour Party and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Senator Nenadi Usman as the party\u2019s national chairman.
