{"id":81901,"date":"2026-01-19T14:35:30","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T14:35:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81901"},"modified":"2026-01-19T14:35:30","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T14:35:30","slug":"firefighters-save-%e2%82%a61-8bn-assets-as-blaze-hits-kugbo-furniture-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/19\/firefighters-save-%e2%82%a61-8bn-assets-as-blaze-hits-kugbo-furniture-market\/","title":{"rendered":"Firefighters Save \u20a61.8bn Assets as Blaze Hits Kugbo Furniture Market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Emergency responders on Sunday contained a fire outbreak at the Kugbo Furniture Market in Abuja, preventing losses estimated at \u20a61.8 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Fire Service said the blaze, believed to have been caused by an electrical power surge, broke out in the early hours at the furniture market, one of the largest in the Federal Capital Territory.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Service, its control room received a distress call at about 8:37 a.m., prompting the deployment of firefighters from its National Headquarters Special Unit, supported by the Nyanya Fire Station and personnel of the FCT Fire Service.<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters battled the inferno for more than three hours before bringing it under control and stopping it from spreading further across the market, which houses highly combustible materials.<\/p>\n<p>The Service said properties valued at about \u20a61.8 billion were salvaged, although the total worth of goods in the market was estimated at over \u20a62 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, commended the prompt response and inter-agency collaboration, urging residents to report fire incidents early to reduce losses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal Emergency responders on Sunday contained a fire outbreak at the Kugbo Furniture Market in Abuja, preventing losses estimated at \u20a61.8 billion.
