{"id":81866,"date":"2026-01-19T05:42:03","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T05:42:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81866"},"modified":"2026-01-19T05:42:03","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T05:42:03","slug":"aedc-adopts-holdco-structure-creates-niger-kogi-discos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/19\/aedc-adopts-holdco-structure-creates-niger-kogi-discos\/","title":{"rendered":"AEDC Adopts HoldCo Structure, Creates Niger, Kogi DisCos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Omoniyi David<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC), has announced its transition to a holding company (HoldCo) structure to align with Nigeria\u2019s evolving electricity market and the decentralised regulatory framework.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Sunday, the company said the move followed the Electricity Act, 2023, which empowers states to establish independent electricity markets and regulatory commissions.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the restructuring, AEDC has incorporated two subsidiaries, Niger Electricity Distribution Company and Kogi Electricity Distribution Company, which will operate under the Niger and Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commissions, respectively, while remaining part of the AEDC Group.<\/p>\n<p>The company also announced key appointments, naming Sam Odekina as Chief Business Officer and Acting Managing Director of Niger Electricity Distribution Company, and Desmond Eboh as Chief Business Officer and Acting Managing Director of Kogi Electricity Distribution Company.<\/p>\n<p>AEDC added that plans are underway to begin operations in Nasarawa State, with the transition process expected to commence soon.<\/p>\n<p>Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Chijioke Okwuokenye, said the HoldCo structure would enable the company to meet state-specific regulatory requirements while maintaining a unified corporate identity and commitment to service delivery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Omoniyi David Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC), has announced its transition to a holding company (HoldCo) structure to align with Nigeria\u2019s evolving electricity market and the decentralised regulatory framework.
