Silver medallists are to earn N200,000 (teams N500,000), while bronze medallists will receive N150,000 (teams N350,000).<\/p>\n<p>Lagos finished sixth overall at the festival, winning 38 gold, 43 silver and 88 bronze medals.<\/p>\n<p>The approval follows protests by athletes in September 2025, after which discussions were held with athletes\u2019 representatives. Both parties agreed that the payments would apply only to the last festival.<\/p>\n<p>Director-General of the commission, Lekan Fatodu, said the payments were approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stressing that the state has no outstanding obligations to its athletes.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, ahead of the 2026 National Sports Festival in Enugu, Lagos has reviewed its qualification criteria, insisting that only zonal winners will represent the state in team sports.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Adeola The Lagos State Sports Commission has approved cash rewards for athletes who won medals at the 2024 National Sports Festival, Gateway Games, held in Abeokuta.
