{"id":81798,"date":"2026-01-18T05:58:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-18T05:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81798"},"modified":"2026-01-18T05:58:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-18T05:58:16","slug":"president-returns-to-abuja-after-20-day-foreign-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/18\/president-returns-to-abuja-after-20-day-foreign-trip\/","title":{"rendered":"President Returns to Abuja After 20-Day Foreign Trip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja after a 20-day trip abroad, during which he attended the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and witnessed the signing of a major trade agreement between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n<p>His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the President\u2019s return in a statement issued on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>While in Abu Dhabi, Nigeria and the UAE signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement to deepen bilateral trade and investment ties.<\/p>\n<p>The pact grants duty-free access to thousands of Nigerian products in the UAE market and is expected to boost investment, technology transfer and cooperation in key sectors.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement was signed by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, for Nigeria, and UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, for the Emirates, in the presence of President Tinubu and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.<\/p>\n<p>President Tinubu also used the summit to outline Nigeria\u2019s climate and energy transition plans, including efforts to mobilise up to $30bn annually for green finance.<\/p>\n<p>He announced plans for a Nigeria-UAE Investopia summit in Lagos in February.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu had left Nigeria on December 28, 2025, travelling first to Paris before proceeding to Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Immaculata President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja after a 20-day trip abroad, during which he attended the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and witnessed the signing of a major trade agreement between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.
