{"id":81614,"date":"2026-01-14T19:15:35","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T19:15:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81614"},"modified":"2026-01-14T19:15:35","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T19:15:35","slug":"kaduna-govt-dismisses-social-media-claims-on-zidane-death-sentence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/14\/kaduna-govt-dismisses-social-media-claims-on-zidane-death-sentence\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaduna Govt Dismisses Social Media Claims on \u2018Zidane\u2019 Death Sentence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Omoniyi David<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Kaduna State Government has dismissed as false and misleading social media claims surrounding the death sentence passed on Victor Solomon, also known as Zidane, insisting that the trial was fair and in line with due process.<br \/>\nAttorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, James Kanyip, said Solomon was tried in two separate cases before different High Courts for distinct offences involving different victims, noting that there was no contradiction in the outcomes.<br \/>\nHe explained that Solomon was discharged and acquitted in one case in 2024 but was lawfully convicted in another in 2026 based on the evidence presented before the court. The second case involved graver offences, including culpable homicide punishable with death, and led to his conviction and sentence on January 6, 2026.<br \/>\nKanyip stressed that the judgment was neither arbitrary nor politically motivated and that the defendant retains the constitutional right to appeal up to the Supreme Court.<br \/>\nAlso reacting, Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, warned that the spread of misinformation on judicial matters could threaten public order, urging residents to verify information before sharing it.<br \/>\nThe state government reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, transparency and fairness under Governor Uba Sani\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Omoniyi David The Kaduna State Government has dismissed as false and misleading social media claims surrounding the death sentence passed on Victor Solomon, also known as Zidane, insisting that the trial was fair and in line with due process.
